Should you make use of an IMAP account to connect to your mailbox and for some reason not be able to view folders that are visible in webmail, this article will show you how to subscribe to an IMAP folder in Outlook 2016 and “restore” the folders in your Outlook client. It is a similar process in Outlook 2010 and 2013.
1. Once your account is set up in Outlook, navigate to your email account in the left pane and right-click on the email account name/top level (a.k.a root) IMAP folder.
2. Click ‘IMAP Folders…‘
3. Click ‘QUERY‘.
4. Select the missing folder and then click the “SUBSCRIBE” button. If you want to add multiple folders then press and hold the “CNTRL” key as you click on each folder. When you are done click the “APPLY” button.
5. The “missing” folders should display under your email account. If they don’t then right-click on the email account name/top level IMAP folder and select “UPDATE FOLDER LIST” from the menu.
6. Your account will start syncing once the IMAP folders have updated.
Congratulations! You have successfully restored you IMAP folders.
